Your Sign-Up Window
You have 7 months to sign up for Medicare. The window opens 3 months before your 65th birthday month and closes 3 months after it.
3 months before your birthday month: Best time to start. If you sign up now, your coverage can start on the first day of your birthday month.
Your birthday month: You can still sign up. Coverage starts the month after you sign up.
The 3 months after: Last chance in this window. Coverage starts the month after you sign up.
Still working and covered by your job's health plan? You may be able to wait on Part B. Call us first and we'll help you check.
What to Have Ready
Your Medicare card, or your Medicare number and start dates (if you already have them)
A list of your doctors
A list of your prescriptions and doses
Your pharmacy
Details on any job or retiree coverage you have now

A Quick Note on Medigap Timing
Your best time to buy a Medicare Supplement plan is usually when your Part B starts. New York also has its own rules that can help you. We'll explain what applies to you.
